Wataru Endo has provided another hint that he will remain at Liverpool beyond this summer, and said in a recent interview that he wants to continue winning silverware at Anfield. The midfielder, who joined from Stuttgart in 2023 as part of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield overhaul, didn’t start a single Premier League match this season until the title was sewn up with four games remaining. Endo came into the team for the Chelsea encounter, his only start of the league season. Across the entire campaign, Endo started just seven games in all competitions despite not suffering from a single injury. He earned repeated praise from Arne Slot for his attitude and commitment, and the head coach did select the Japan captain often in the final months of the 2024/25 term. Having played in just eight of the first 21 league matches, Endo featured in 12 of the last 17. He also made some important contributions coming off the bench in wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City, plus away to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The 32-year-old has previously revealed he is accepting of his bit-part role in the side, comments he reiterated on Liverpool’s Red Machine podcast. Endo played a bit-part role in Slot’s first season at Anfield. “[When] I came to Liverpool, I really wanted to achieve [the] Premier League title. I feel like this is why I play football,” said Endo. “I hope this is just the beginning to achieve the titles because after I came here, I won the Carabao Cup [in the] first season and the Premier League [in the] second season. “So, I just want to keep continuing to win titles with the fans. “It means a lot to me but I still feel like we can achieve something more with the staff and the team and for the fans.” Endo wants to add more silverware to his collection at Liverpool. (Image: 2025 Liverpool FC) At the end of the season, Endo revealed he is not satisfied with his game time but said he has no desire to leave Liverpool. “I really think Liverpool is that kind of club – one that’s worth it. If I have the opportunity to play here, I wouldn’t throw it away just to go somewhere else,” he told Abema. “I believe that giving it my all here, and helping Liverpool win more titles, is the path to making my career as fulfilling as possible.” Speaking separately in a Q&A in Japan last month, Endo said: “If the club tells me to leave. No, I’m staying. I have a contract. It’s up to me to make the final decision. Basically, I’m staying, for now.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.
