Nigeria’s Diphtheria Outbreak: Schools Closed, Vaccinations Underway

The Nigerian National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported that diphtheria cases in the country have surged to 98% of all confirmed cases. The outbreak has been traced back to Kano, Borno, Plateau, and five other states. Schools in affected areas have been shut down as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, NCDC is vaccinating thousands of people to prevent further spread.
