Marquinhos is set to join Brazilian Serie A club Cruzeiro on a permanent transfer from Arsenal, according to Fabrizio Romano. The winger spent the second-half of the 2024/25 season on loan with the four-time league champions, having joined on an initial year long deal in January, but now seems to be returning to his home nation on a permanent basis. His time in north London was far from eventful and that led to him being forgotten by many, but Marquinhos will be looking to reignite what was predicted to be a promising career with this transfer.Marquinhos set for permanent move away from ArsenalMarquinhos joined Arsenal from boyhood club Sao Paulo for €3.50m in June 2022 and was labelled as being the next Gabriel Martinelli, who was plucked out of the Brazilian fourth division three years earlier. He made his debut in the Europa League away to FC Zurich and opened the scoring with a fine finish from an Eddie Nketiah cross. Marquinhos repaid the favour in the second-half, assisting his teammate for the winning goal. The Brazil youth international went on to make a further five appearances for the Gunners, with only one of those coming in the Premier League, a late substitute showing in a 3-0 win at Brentford. He spent the second-half of the 2022/23 campaign in the Championship, playing 11 times on loan at Norwich City.Arsenal loaned Marquinhos out once again for the 2023/24 season, sending him to play for Nantes in Ligue 1, but he failed to make an impact for the French side, not finding the back of the net in just seven appearances. He was recalled and sealed a temporary move back to his homeland to play for Fluminense. His time in Brazil continued with a move to Cruzeiro in January 2025, where he is now set to move permanently for a fee that has not been disclosed. It is safe to say that Marquinhos’ transfer to Arsenal didn’t go too well. He played a bit part in the first-half of his debut campaign before being offered the opportunity to appear regularly out on loan. However, his failure to garner quality experience at different clubs meant he never got the chance to make an impact with the Gunners. If the club make a profit on the Brazilian, it would be a tidy but small piece of business.READ THE LATEST ARSENAL NEWS HERE!
