Liverpool moved one final step closer to winning the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday. The Reds had the chance to win the title heading into the day, but were reliant on Arsenal slipping up against Ipswich in the earlier kick-off.With the Gunners hammering Ipswich 4-0, Liverpool knew there would be no championship celebrations at the King Power Stadium.Instead, Liverpool will have the chance to cement their championsâ status by beating Tottenham at Anfield next Sunday. That they head into that game three points away from a Premier League title win was thanks to a late, narrative-laden strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold at Leicester. In the build-up to the game, some fans had convinced themselves that Alexander-Arnold is not leaving to join Real Madrid this summer.
And after seeing his celebrations after slamming Liverpool ahead on Sunday, those same fans were emboldened in their theories.Photo by Shaun Botterill/Getty ImagesLiverpool fans offer Trent Alexander-Arnold theoriesIt had to be Trent, didnât it.
The right-back came on for the final 20 minutes like a man determined to make an impact.Liverpool fans welcomed Alexander-Arnold by chanting his name and he answered in emphatic fashion.
Having smashed in the wining goal, Trent whipped his shirt off and fans felt heâd delivered a telling moment.âNo way Trent Alexander Arnold is leaving Liverpool after this celebration,â said one supporter.
âNah if Trent leaves after that cele ill be convinced he hates Liverpool,â said another.âThat Trent celebration either becomes iconic for years if he stays or becomes a nightmare if he leaves,â someone else decided. That Trent celebration either becomes iconic for years if he stays or becomes a nightmare if he leavesâ James (@owenjlfc) April 20, 2025 View Tweet READ MORE: Gary Neville explains whatâs âdifferentâ about Conor Bradley after watching him for Liverpool against LeicesterâTaking his shirt off tells me all I need to know about his contract,â said one fan, âAnyone else dragged back in?â added another.âThat was an absolutely emphatic celebration from a man whose head is supposedly in Madrid,â one more supporter claimed.
âStop playing with my heart, Trent.ââWhat does that celebration mean Trent?! Tell us,â questioned another fan.
âWhy has he celebrated every goal this season like a contract announcement is imminent.
I canât be getting pulled back into this,â said another.âNo way does a player who doesnât love the club celebrate like this,â was the final assessment.
âLook at what it means.âIs Trent Alexander-Arnold staying? While fans may have seen Alexander-Arnoldâs celebration as confirmation that heâs staying with Liverpool, we looked at it a different way.The 26-year-old has clearly been itching to get on the pitch and deliver a big moment to be remembered for during this yearâs title race.Having been out injured he hasnât had that chance.
By delivering on Sunday, he got it.Virgil van Dijk was seen pushing Trent towards the fans after the final whistle.
With some hostility towards the right-back meaning he is unlikely to get a good reception at Anfield on the final day, this was almost his chance to say goodbye on positive terms. It was certainly an emotion-filled celebration but, unfortunately, we think that is bad news on this occasion.
