SportFootballErling HaalandOPINION Erling Haaland’s patience is wearing thin at Manchester City and Pep Guardiola has to find a way to deliver him the results he deservesErling Haaland could be forgiven for checking the small print of that mind-boggling contract he signed with Manchester City last season.

Just to check if there might be a get out clause. One which could allow him to escape from Manchester to Madrid, should the unthinkable happen and both City and Pep Guardiola lose their midas touch for good.Because despite pocketing a decade-long deal worth £500,000-a-week, Haaland is not happy.

Since he put pen to paper, he’s seen City’s domination of domestic football put to the sword.Deposed as English champions, trophyless last season, and dumped out of the Champions League ahead of the knockout stages. These were not the reasons Haaland decided to pledge the bulk of his career to the blue half of Manchester.

Which might explain why his patience appears to be wearing a bit thin.Haaland was less than impressed with how Guardiola’s side left Monaco feeling bankrupt this week, having squandered the lead twice in a Champions League game. The second equaliser came in the 90th minute, courtesy of a penalty from former England international Eric Dier.

Haaland has every right to feel aggrieved. His two goals had given City every chance of heading home with three points.

But not for the first time this season he had to watch his astonishing work in attack ruined by those at the back.”It’s not good enough,” Haaland raged, “Of course I don’t feel good we didn’t win.

We do something unnecessarily in the second half and we don’t think we played good enough.

We don’t deserve to win.”We need more energy.

I don’t think it is good enough.

Every Champions League game is tough, look at last year when we went out.

There are not many teams who have won their first two games.”City should feel blessed to have a forward who scores goals for fun.Haaland has plundered 52 goals in 50 appearances Champions League games alone.

Not to mention 135 in 154 games in all competitions since joining City in 2022.But right now he must be thinking what the point of him scoring is, if City’s defence cannot keep clean sheets.

Guardiola’s side has kept one of these in the last four games. The deposed champions remain vulnerable to the counter attack – and it feels like Haaland has seen enough. He deserves much better – and Guardiola must find a way to give Haaland the results he needs.
