Learn moreJohn Stones is back in training at the Club World CupManchester City have been handed a boost ahead of the start of the Club World Cup after centre-back John Stones returned to full training.Pep Guardiola’s squad trained in the United States for the first time on Friday, and Stones was part of a full group that was put through its paces in Boca Raton.The 31-year-old hasn’t played since February 19 when he suffered a thigh injury during City’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in their Champions League play-off tie.Updates on his fitness were sparse towards the end of the season, but he was a surprise inclusion on an England training camp in Spain ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona earlier this month.
Although Stones wasn’t included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad, he linked up with his international teammates.His return to training at City’s Lynn University base is a significant boost after his 2024/25 season was significantly disrupted by injury.
Stones started just six Premier League games and came off injured in two of those as he struggled to stay fully fit.His absence hurt City, but his fitness issues have led to speculation over his future.
