Premier League Championship Scottish Premiership European Teams COMMENT: Arsenal have a target who could be a major upgrade on Raheem Sterling.

The Borussia Dortmund star would be a major upgrade on struggling loanee Raheem Sterling. The Gunners signed Sterling on loan from Chelsea during the summer.
It was envisaged that the 30-year-old would revive his career in north London, be an experienced head in a young squad, and score the goals to fire Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 21 years.None of that has happened.
Sterling struggled for game time in the first half of the season and, with an attacking injury crisis sweeping through Mikel Arteta’s squad, he looks ill-equipped to take on the burden of being Arsenal’s main man.Arteta needed an upgrade at left-wing last summer and thought he had his man in Sterling, with the pair working so well together during their time at Manchester City.
But Arsenal will need to sign another player in the position next summer after Sterling’s return to Chelsea, and Gittens could be the best target. The former City star has shone for Dortmund this season, scoring 11 goals for the Bundesliga strugglers.
Ex-Liverpool star Markus Babbel believes Arsenal have a ‘massive chance’ of signing the 20-year-old.“I think there’s a good chance we could see Jamie Gittens playing in the Premier League next season,” Babbel told Wette.de.
“I don’t think Borussia Dortmund will qualify for the Champions League this season, or even for the Europa League or Conference League.“So they will have to sell some players this summer and Gittens is the player they’ll be able to sell for the most money – so a move would make sense for all parties.Jamie Gittens could be the perfect Raheem Sterling replacement at Arsenal (Image: Getty) Invalid emailWe use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you.

He’d be a brilliant addition to Mikel Arteta’s team.“Out of the other Premier League clubs linked with Gittens, I’m not sure about Tottenham’s chances of signing him, or even Chelsea’s, as he’ll be wanting to play Champions League football next year, which is why I believe he will leave Dortmund at the end of this season.”Arsenal are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, particularly if they fail to topple Liverpool and win the Premier League this season.
They have also been linked with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
