SportFootballManchester United FCLatest Manchester United transfer news with an update on Luke Shaw’s futureLuke Shaw of Manchester United(Image: Getty Images)Luke Shaw is prepared to leave Manchester United and explore opportunities elsewhere, it has been claimed.
The 30-year-old made just 12 appearances last season as he struggled with knee and muscle injuries. He has two years left on his contract but there are fears that his career at Old Trafford could be coming to an end.
The England international is facing limited opportunities with Patrick Dorgu expected to above him in the pecking order at left-back, while he could fill in at centre-back but Ruben Amorim is well stocked there.18-year-old talent Diego Leon, a £3.3million signing from Cerro Porteno, is expected to compete with Dorgu for the left-back position in Amorim’s system, putting more doubt into Shaw’s game time. Now, according to The Sun, Shaw is ready to quit United and could be gone by the end of the summer.
The former Southampton defender is aware of serious interest from Saudi Arabia and is prepared to listen to offers.Should he make the move to the Middle East, he would become the latest Premier League star to join the Saudi revolution.
Jordan Henderson, Ivan Toney and Riyad Mahrez have given it a go, while former Man United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 99 goals in 111 appearances since he signed for Al-Nassr.Shaw signed for United in a £30m deal from Southampton in 2014 and made a bright start to life in Manchester.
However, Shaw suffered a double leg break in a Champions League game against PSV – an injury that doctors feared could lead to amputation due to blood clots discovered in the aftermath. That cost Shaw 11 months on the sidelines and injuries have derailed his time at United, it’s safe to suggest.
Indeed, he has missed a staggering 231 matches during his Reds career, almost equivalent to the 287 appearances he has made.
Shaw has played more than 40 games in a season just THREE times in his 11 years at United.Despite this, Shaw is seen as a popular and influential figure within the dressing room and Amorim is in no rush to sell the £150,000 per-week left-back.
But the player is determined to make up for lost time and is aware he faces a difficult decision on his future over the coming weeks and months. Here at The Manchester Evening News, we are dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.Make sure you don’t miss out on the latest United news by joining our free WhatsApp group.
