Raheem Sterling, Axel Disasi, and David Datro Fofana are the last three players left on Chelsea’s “bomb” squad.
They didn’t get to leave before the summer transfer window closed.
The three have been sent away to a different part of Cobham, where they can’t be with the first team and have to follow strict rules that show how low they are on the club’s totem pole.
Reports say that the players can’t eat with the first team, have to use different bathrooms, and even have to change in different locker rooms.
These kinds of actions are usually only used for disciplinary reasons, but it has raised worries about how they will affect players’ mental health.
It is worth noting that Raheem Sterling wants to be a part of Thomas Tuchel’s England plans, but this is looking rather unlikely as he is not playing regularly.
The winger turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and MLS that would have paid him a lot of money.
Chelsea’s focus on other players have left him stuck.
Disasi said no to a possible move to West Ham, and a loan deal for Fofana to Celtic fell through late, leaving all three with no clear way back into the team.
The group have also been left off Chelsea’s Champions League squad list, which means they won’t be able to play until at least January.
That omission shows how unlikely it is that they will play in important games this season under Enzo Maresca.
For now, Sterling, Disasi, and Fofana are alone at Cobham.
Their futures depend on whether Chelsea change their mind or another way out opens up when the winter window opens.
Chelsea Get Rid of Other Players During the summer transfer window, Chelsea saw a lot of players leave as the club worked hard to rebuild the squad.
Several well-known players left, such as Christopher Nkunku, who moved to AC Milan two years after arriving at Stamford Bridge, and Noni Madueke, who signed with Arsenal for £52 million.
They also sold goalkeepers Kepa Arrizabalaga and Djordje Petrovic, and Marcus Bettinelli went to Manchester City.
Armando Broja went to Burnley, Carney Chukwuemeka went to Borussia Dortmund, and Renato Veiga went to Villarreal.
Ben Chilwell’s move to Strasbourg came late on, and academy players like Bashir Humphreys and Alfie Gilchrist signed permanent deals to leave Cobham.
At the same time, Nicolas Jackson went on loan to Bayern Munich with a buy option, and a number of young players, such as Kendry Paez and Mamadou Sarr, went on loan to Strasbourg.
The clear-out makes Chelsea’s squad smaller, but they also have to find new players to make up for the lost depth.
