Ex-Rangers manager target Davide Ancelotti insists he won’t quit despite Brazilian fans demonstrating against him.
The Italian coach – son of legendary boss Carlo – was strongly linked with a move to Rangers in the summer as he looked to land his first job in management, after being No.2 to his dad at Real Madrid.
But Rangers opted to go for Russell Martin instead and the former Southampton boss is now clinging to his job after a calamitous start to his reign.
Ancelotti was appointed as manager of Rio de Janeiro outfit Botafogo, but he’s endured a difficult start too and are now 14 points off the pace in the league behind leaders Flamengo.
After a 3-3 draw with minnows Mirassol which was attended by the club’s worst ever attendance in Brazil’s Serie A of just 5,859, Ancelotti responded to the fans’ protests against him.
He said: “The pressure is normal.
My job is about results.
We always have to respect the fans’ opinions.
“That’s part of the job.
We’re going through a difficult time, we have to improve with results.
We have to keep working.
I enjoy the work I do.
“We need time to look for explanations.
“I will win the fans round with results, not words.
Winning games and playing well and making the fans believe in the team again.
“But yes, I understand the supporters’ frustrations.”
